"The Use of Energy"

In Wendell Berry's essay "The Use of Energy," he talks about how we as humans have neglected some our basic traditions to conserve our use of energy. We have relied to highly on machines and the power of industry to produce some of the most simple things we as human beings need in order to live well.

He mostly talks about how agriculture has become more of a business, than a way of life. Farms these days use complex machines to manufacture and grow some of our basic produce. Were in the old days we solely relied on energy from ourselves to produce this much needed necessity.

This isn't a crisis of energy so much, but a crisis of waste. We keep using machines to produce some our basic needs, where we should be more involved in manual labor to produce more jobs, and to not rely on energy abusing machines to do the work for us. We have become lazy, and arrogant to how we supply ourselves with nourishment.

We have to try and re-discipline ourselves to the art of agriculture, and not to solely rely that our produce will just be waiting for us at the local convenient store. We must try and better ourselves by using less energy depleting machines that cause more and more waste to dissipate into our precious atmosphere.

Setting up agriculture in the community is something that we should all be trying to accomplish. It saves on energy, helps decrease machanical waste, and provides fantastic food for everyone involved.
